In this prequel to The Rock Star, Jon Stevens is in his prime, and he is forced to go to Bainbridge Island undercover to investigate the deaths of three couples. The local Sheriff has classified the deaths as suicides, but Stevens thinks they’re killings, and with just over twenty thousand inhabitants on the Island, Bainbridge has a small town feel, where everybody knows everybody else’s business, so Stevens has to investigate without the killer knowing he’s there. Which could be next to impossible.

I got this because I have been to Bainbridge Island and wanted to see if the story covered any of the places I had been. Not so much. The story is not complicated, it doesn't take the detective long to figure out the problems and take care of business. I guess it seems the detective seems so out of place, or maybe out of his element in this particular story. He is a no nonsense sort of guy, and doesn't seem to fit this story so well. Almost seems like he is overkill for where he is. The story itself goes along and almost solves itself without him.Product details

I enjoyed this short story but didn't realize that it was so short until it ended halfway thru. I guess I should have paid more attention; It was however a good story.
I completely enjoyed this short. It captivated me until the end. I highly recommend it.
I hope someday there is a volume of these stories published.
Fun, smart read! I recommend it to anyone who enjoyed a good murder mystery. 5 stars because it was exactly what I was looking for. I'm glad this is a series. I look forward to reading more of Rick Soper's books.
Short, but very well-written. Good descriptions; felt the chill and excitement of riding the Seattle - Bainbridge Island Ferry; and, surprised with the FBI investigation of the suspected suicides of three married couples. Looking forward to reading the Rock Star Series!
The Bainbridge killings didn't actually take place on Bainbridge but the facts were all there the descriptions of the town it was like going home again. Not too sure I like the ending but it was a twist I have to admit that. I think I would recommend this for more adult readers people who can understand why people do something. Well written with lots of twists and turns.
I don't give out 5 stars very often. The author has to work for it. Mr. Sope did just that. Jon Stevens is on my list as a character I want to read more about. Mr. Soper did a great job with Bainbridge, Puget Sound and just the whole flavor of the area. To wind it so well into this mystery was amazing. I had no idea what the ending would be until - as it should be - the end! This one is an all nighter - I could not put it down until I read the whole thing.
